Featured Athlete - April 2024 - Eve Allison

Eve Allison - West Ottawa U12B

"Eve is a wonderful teammate - always positive and eager to help her team in any way she can. She is a truly versatile player, able to play any position you ask her to (even goalie!), and always with a smile on her face. She spent most of the first two thirds of the season taking turns as goalie while also rotating through defence, forward, and centre, never complaining about whichever position she was playing each game. Part way through the season she decided that she would prefer to only play out and take a break from the goalie rotation she had been in, with the other player becoming the full time goalie for the team. In the final round robin game of the team’s last tournament of the season the goalie got injured and had to stop playing at the end of the first period. With no backup goalie or extra goalie gear ready to go the team was given 5 minutes to dress a player in the injured goalie’s gear. Eve was asked to fill in and knowing that her goalie couldn’t play and that she was the next most experienced goalie on the team she agreed. Eve hadn’t played in nets in about two months but didn’t hesitate to throw on the goalie’s pads (which were a different style that she had never worn before) in record time - only to find out that the blocker, keely, and stick were all right handed while she was left handed, something the coaches hadn’t realized when they asked her to fill in! When the coaches realized the issue and started struggling to figure out what to do Eve piped up saying “it’s okay, I’ll make it work” and proceeded to take the net with the right-handed gear. Despite the time away from the net, the lack of preparation time, the unfamiliar pads, and right-handed gear on a left-handed player, Eve went above and beyond by getting into that net so that her team could finish their game with a goalie, all the while maintaining such a positive attitude. As a bonus she absolutely rocked it in the net!"
