Team of The Week – Metcalfe Hornets U16A & Calgary Northwest Nova U16A

This week, Ringette Ontario would like to recognize two extraordinary teams for Team of the Week: The Metcalfe Hornets U16A team and the Calgary Northwest Nova U16A team.

The Metcalfe Hornets U16A recently completed an exchange with the Calgary Northwest Nova U16A team. Both teams had the chance to travel to each other’s hometown and participate in two tournaments (Calgary’s Esso Golden Ring and the GCRA tournament in Ottawa). The trips provided the opportunity to tour and learn more about life in the host city. The Hornets got a chance to see downtown Calgary, and visit Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and Banff, which included a skate in the mountains and a dip in the Hot Springs. The Nova team visited our Nations Capital with a downtown walk around key sites, including the Parliament buildings and Byward Market, a tour of the Museum of History and a chance to skate the length of the Rideau canal. The exchange also included some volunteer time in each city, with the players supporting “My Best Friend’s Closet” in Calgary, and the “Ottawa Mission” in Ottawa. The teams played hard on the ice, gave back to their communities and managed their school work and exam studying during the trips. Through their love of ringette, the teams and families have developed friendships that are sure to last for many years.

This is what we call sportsmanship, unity and community! Ringette Ontario would like to commend both teams’ players, coaches and parents for their efforts during these tournament and Continue to Own The Rink!
