Team of The Week – Sunderland Stingers U19B

This week, Ringette Ontario would like to recognize an extraordinary team for our last regular season Team of the Week: The Sunderland Stingers U19B team.

The Sunderland U19B team has been “owning the rink” on and off the ice all season long! With a stellar record of 27-1-2 this season so far, including 3 gold medals and a silver, it had been a dream season. However, it is the off-ice character development has been what has impressed the coaching staff time and time again. They are a dedicated and hard working group who rarely miss a practice or team event, juggling part time jobs and school work. They have bonded so closely this year and have developed lifelong relationships. We have several girls on our club that help out locally with younger teams in the Sunderland Stingerz organization. We have referees, time keepers, and shot clock operators. They love giving back. Also, recently, two of our players volunteered to demonstrate floor ringette at a local high school in preparation for Special Olympics. We have several players who have also met academic goals this year. Several are on the honour roll, with one of our players gaining acceptance to Guelph University next year (yes, she is going to try out for the Guelph Gryphons ringette team!). I forgot to mention that before this season started, several of our players and all of our coaching staff offered summer ringette clinics to all Sunderland Stingerz players. The girls were in charge of running stations at these clinics. We hope to make this an annual event.

Additionally, all regional teams from Sunderland participated in the 2019 Niagara Falls tournament this weekend.  All the teams gathered at the Falls for an Association photo and our girls led a Go Stingerz Go cheer!  We wanted the Americans to hear us!!

Ringette Ontario would like to commend these players, coaches and parents for their amazing work this season! Continue to Own The Rink!
