Ringette Ontario Announces Major Technical Officials Selected for the 2026 Ontario Winter Games
Jan. 08, 2026
Ringette Ontario is proud to announce the Major Technical Officials selected for the 2026 Ontario Winter Games. The crew will be led by Supervisor, Alex Hanes (Kingston), On-Ice Officials, Katelyn Wilson (Sarnia), Abby Joris (Arkona), Haley Wickens (Richmond Hill), Vivian Dowdall (Chatham), and Duncan MacQuarrie (Ottawa), and Shot Clock Operator, Ethan Komel (Oshawa).
This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication each member of the crew has put into their officiating careers. Having spent many weekends operating the shot-clock, Komel is proud to be “excelling to a point where I have the opportunity to be selected”. Dowdall is grateful for the opportunity and says it’s a “powerful recognition” of the time she and her fellow officials have put in over the seasons. Wickens echoes this sentiment, mentioning it’s an honour to “contribute to the integrity of a sport so close to my heart, alongside phenomenal athletes, and an incredible crew!”
The selection feels like a full-circle moment for Joris, “for many years, I’ve looked up to the officials at this event.” She adds, “to skate alongside them is such an incredible experience”. As for Wilson, skating at this event has an extra special meaning, “Abby [Joris] and I both come from the same small town, and I got to watch her come up as a player, then official, and now to skate the event like this together is pretty cool.”
While they’ve officiated many ringette games already this season, the Ontario Winter Games is a unique event that “feels like it has an extra layer of meaning to it because of the multi-sport nature,” says MacQuarrie, “if feels like a mini-Olympics!"
Having recently represented Canada as an On-Ice Official at the World Ringette Championships in the Fall of 2025, Hanes brings a wealth of experience to his role. Sharing his excitement to work with this group of officials as a Supervisor, he is quick to praise their work ethic, “these officials have worked hard to get here, dedicating themselves to excellence to earn their place at the Ontario Winter Games”.
Ringette will be featured in weekend one of the 2026 Ontario Winter Games in Orillia, ON. Competition will take place at Rotary Place from February 20-22, 2026.
