MEET THE TEAM - ECRC (EASTERN CANADIAN RINGETTE CHAMPIONSHIPS)

Apr. 08, 2022

We have mentioned this before, but we will repeat it. This season was not considered normal. We don’t know about you, but we were so happy we could get back on the ice and have some “normalcy.”

Easterns is just around the corner, and at this time, next week, it will be in full swing. Who’s excited? With all this excitement, we are proud to introduce you all to your teams representing our sport out east.

From Ringette Ontario, we wish ALL our teams the best luck at nationals. We KNOW you all will make us proud!

U14 AA:

RICHMOND HILL: TEAM ONTARIO

Get to know the team: The Richmond Hill Lightning U14AA team was always a small group. They began recruitment in U9 when two five-year-old girls decided to start their ringette careers early. Over the following years, the addition of players from Markham and Newmarket helped grow our team until the fall of 2021, when twelve fantastic players and one magnificent goalie came together. However, being a minor team meant we would have to train harder than we did! Our girls pushed themselves through three practices a week and one run, rain or shine…or snow. When the coaches weren’t working them hard, they were having fun and dancing like no one was watching. The girls fused closer during a day of team building at Treetop Trekking, a trip up to the skating trail in Arrowhead Provincial Park, and a festive holiday party. The parents were great sports and drove the team east to a mini-event in Oshawa and a day in Napanee, where we played some challenging Ottawa teams. The extra experience must have paid off because soon after, the team brought home the first gold of the season from the Ajax/Pickering tournament, our first tournament in two years. But we weren’t done yet; the girls had been giving them all season for this moment, provincials. Four days, eight games. The team had garnered support from many teams all over Ontario, and everyone was able to watch during the live-streamed finals as they prevailed, becoming this year’s U14AA Team Ontario.
